Dog Lover

I have to admit, I've always been a dog lover.  It all started when I was a young girl and my parents got us kids some kittens...and later discovered I was allergic to cats. It was their long hair, I think. Anyway, the family switched to dogs, and I don't seem to have the problems like I did with my allergies.  So all my live I've had a dog. Even in my married life.  We had a teacup poodle for several years, but he had seizures several times a day for many years.  Before we had him put to sleep, he was blind in one eye and almost blind in the second - and his back legs were so bad he couldn't hardly walk.  Poor guy.

Anyway, it took almost two years, but we finally decided to get another dog.  My husband has always wanted a miniature schnauzer, so... that's what we got.  Today was Jack's first haircut.  Now our baby looks so grown up. (sobs)  But Jack still a cutie, just the same.

I'm posting some before and after pictures of Jack.  I'm hoping you'll leave a comment and share your dog experiences with me.

LOL omg he's so cute. I'm a total dog lover Marie. My shitzu is almost twelve years old and when he was younger he would get up under people's feet when they'd come in the door. Well, my hubby had an armload of groceries and didn't see him, stepping on his leg, breaking it. We never had the money to get it fixed though. 8k to fix his leg. Well he gets along just fine with that leg and never misses a beat. He's thoroughly loved though and I think that's probably what helped get him through that. I've had him for so long now, I don't know what I'll do when he's gone. Great blog!

Awww, how cute. I love dogs more than I do cats. Cats are very sneeky and get up on things they shouldn't. But dogs have such a big heart and they love you no matter what. They have that Christ like love and I love that.

Thanks for sharing, Melissa. Our teacup poodle, Buddy, was so tiny that my daughters put him on the kitchen table when he was still very young, and they weren't watching and he fell. I don't think he broke his back legs, but he never walked the same after that. I think that had a lot to do with why he had arthritis so bad. Poor guy!

Mom, Jack is sneaky. I can't believe how sneaky this pup is! lol I told Scott that he's just like his name - Captain Jack. hahahaha Sneaky and adventurous, that's for sure!

What a cutie! I never had a dog growing up. My mom wouldn't allow it. But when my youngest son was 10, we got a pure bred boxer. Our next door neighbor's boxer had puppies. We had her for amost 11 years, but had to put her down due to severe hip dysplasia. But now we have a mixed breed puppy named Chase. He's part boxer, part pit bull and a real lovable little bundle. Although he's almost six months old now and growing fast.

It's so sad when we have to put our dogs down. Thanks for sharing, Susan. They do grow up fast. I'm glad our kids don't grow that fast. lol

What a cutie! We have an adorable black Shih Tzu named Webster. We got him from a rescue group when our old lab died. Small dogs are so much easier to have indoors, but we can't let him out without us along due to coyotes, hawks and other predators--like the dogs across the road.

Oh yikes, Caroline! You have wolves that close by? Yeah, how scary. But small dogs are more enjoyable, I think. Especially when I have young grandkids over at the house all the time. I don't want them to be trampled. lol

Marie, he is sooooo adorable. I'm such a dog lover and have been since I was a toddler. My parents always had a dog. I can't live without at least three dogs. We had four until we lost her to old age.

I have three Rat Terriers now, and they're chock full of personality. We got to see our female in action one day when she caught a squirrel in our yard and shook it so badly she snapped its neck. The RTs were bred to do this.

Our dogs weigh from 9# to 17#. Prior to them, we'd always had dogs that weighed 100 pounds or more. We're hoping to get another black lab after the new year. We'd had one long ago, and he was such a sweetie.

Loved the photos. And love your new book cover!!!

Our dog hurt a leg when she was a pup, too. She tried to esacpe her bath but got a hind leg hung up on the high edge of the tub. She has early arthritis now as well, and we give her glucosamine for it, sometimes aspirin, sometimes rubs.
Your dog is adorable.

I like the idea of a dog and I like other people's dogs.
We have one. A mutt. Part lab part hound as far as we can tell. Smart as a whip. There are words we HAVE to spell in front of him. And if he gets fed when someone isn't there, as soon as they come home he gives them "i haven't eaten in days" look. He's gotten my dh to feed him again.

Oh how adorable! I love dogs, always have had them. Our smallest is a tiny bossy pom-poo and the largest is our most recent rescue, a great Dane mix. Loved your post.

Love my doggies-- I have four. It just so happens my doggie in my profile picture here is named Jack, too. Of course, we have endearment nicknames like Jack-the-Licker (since loves to kiss us or he thinks we are extremely dirty.) Jack-O-Lantern is another--We're a family that loves Halloween.

Your Jack is beautiful, too. Congratulations on your new addition to the family.

Jack is GORGEOUS! Our home is bless with Jasper. He's a rat terrier / chihuahua mix we rescued from a shelter when he was small enough to fit into the palm of my hand. Jasper is my writing partner now, takes every step I do and I'd be lost without him.

Great comments, Jannine, Lora, Chris Beth, Karen, and Maeve!! Isn't it funny how our dogs soon become our kids? So why can't my own kids mind as well? lol

I've noticed alot of writers tend to be dog lovers! We own a 4 year-old ex-racing greyhound who's been part of our family now for just over a year. What did we do without her?? She is beautiful, quiet, gentle, affectionate and elegant. And she sleeps more than my cat does!!
I love to watch her joy when she's allowed on the beach off-leash for a run. I fell in love with the breed so much (especially after hearing they are euthanised after their racing days are over!) that I became involved in the organisation that re-homes them and found myself writing articles for the quarterly magazine as well!
Note all the comments you've received on your blog - alot of people love their dogs! : )

I'm a day late, but I'm also a dog lover and have been ever since I can remember. I was even born in the year of the dog (Chinese horoscope) and so was my son. At one time we had three dogs: two border collies and a chow chow. Sadly those three are gone now, but I have a 17 lb sheltie that I adopted from the Middle Tn. Sheltie Rescue. She's such a diva and a joy. Sleeping on the foot of my bed right now.

He is so adorable! Love his pacifier lol...my sister in law calls them little generals lol..they are great pets, don't shed which is good for your allergies and very loveable. When I was dog grooming we use to have some sweeties come through the shop and of course there were those few that had to be muzzled or you would loose fingers lol, but the majority were real sweet tempered. I have always had dogs and a few cats but DH doesn't like cats so I get my cat fix at my daughters...she has seven lol and two pugs whew what a houseful lol...anyway I have two dogs at the moment each with their own backstory of how they came to me...one is a 9 yr old brindle and white pit bull...sweetest thing on planet earth...he doesn't realize he can't be a lap dog lol and then we have a party cocker that is also 9 yr old. Both are very protective of DH and myself but sweethearts. I have always had dogs and hopefully will always have a pet. They are great companions that give their love unconditionally. Enjoy him much Marie!

We've always had at least one dog, sometimes two. At the moment, we have a female Pom named Lady. She's very sweet and fun and follows me everywhere.

Our last dog was also a Pom. Her name was Teddi. She passed away at the age of 17 1/2. Needless to say, she was sorely missed.

The best thing about dogs is that they love you no matter what!!!!
